We have recently established in school ‘ambassadors’ within STEM subjects who will receive specialist training on apprenticeships and be informed of vacancies within their subject specialisms.
I inform all KS4 students of all routes at Post-16 including apprenticeships and will be looking to extend this to Year 9 too. Information and guidance is given through information packs, links to relevant websites, assemblies, guest speakers and group activity sessions (in conjunction with NYBEP). We also advertise apprenticeship vacancies to students and parents (posters leaflets and electronically). We’re looking to incorporate into SoW at Y9-Y11 too. We have recently established in school ‘ambassadors’ within STEM subjects who will receive specialist training on apprenticeships and be informed of vacancies within their subject specialisms – giving students, parents and staff designated key people to contact for information and guidance. We also do more work with vulnerable and supported students including work placements and bespoke curriculums to lead into foundation apprenticeships. Our development points for the next year are raising parent/carers awareness of apprenticeships and over coming any negative preconceptions and myths associated with apprenticeships and finally ensuring all students are aware of all level of apprenticeships – we are already seeing an increase in the number interested in pursuing an apprenticeship at Post-18 rather than following the University route.
