Our Educational Programmes
Through our Educational Programmes we show that a low carbon, secure and affordable energy supply is vital for the future.
The Inspire Programme allows young people in Somerset to learn about the Hinkley Point C project. Our Net Zero challenge is a project-based activity, which sets young people the challenge of helping their local community reach Net Zero.
We work in partnership with a wide range of fantastic organisations to bring positive change to communities and to benefit young people across the UK – all part of our approach to being a force for good in society.
EDF has purpose-built visitor centres across the UK, each exploring how electricity is created in a fun and interactive way. Individuals and groups can book to go and visit one and take a tour of the power station as well.
Charity Partnerships
This year, EDF have partnered with Alzheimer’s Society to help support ground-breaking research and life-changing dementia services across the UK.
The company and individual employees can take part in fundraising activities to raise money for the charity.

Our recruitment approach
Our skills-based hiring approach means we’re interested in your current skills as well as your ability to acquire new skills. Throughout our selection process, we will evaluate your motivation, skills, behaviours and core strengths, seeking individuals who can grow with our organisation.
We concentrate on defining success in our roles and identifying the key behaviours needed for high performance. This approach provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate your potential to succeed in the role and ensures a fair, objective, and consistent assessment process.
Applying for our Apprenticeships

Start

1
We will ask you to complete a short application form and attach your CV. At this stage, we are checking that you meet the minimum criteria for the role, which can be found in the job advert. Don’t worry if you don’t have any previous work experience, as this isn’t something we are looking for.
-
2
If successful at application stage, you will be invited to complete an online assessment. We use a testing provider called Arctic Shores and the assessment consists of a series of interactive tasks designed to provide insight into your natural behaviours. This gives you the opportunity to show us your true potential.
The assessment is designed to give us a better understanding of your skills, behaviours and potential to succeed within the role you have applied for, as well as how you would typically behave in a workplace environment. There is no right or wrong way to approach them, so we encourage you to complete each task in the way that feels most natural to you.
You’ll receive a personalised feedback report following the assessment.
You can complete a practice test ahead of time, which will give you an idea of what you can expect here.
You can also access candidate FAQ’s on the Arctic Shores Website.

If you are successful after online assessments, you will be asked to complete a video interview. This is a one-way interview, where you’ll be asked to record your answers to pre-set scenario based questions.
We will ask you questions around your motivations for applying to EDF and to the specific programme, as well as some questions focussed on important skills/behaviours. The questions don’t require you to have specific experience to use as examples, as we are more focussed on how you would apply your skills in various contexts and approach future challenges, allowing us to measure your potential in the fairest, most robust way possible.
You’ll have the flexibility to complete it in your own time, at a time that suits you, and we also offer the option to do an ‘audio only’ interview if you would prefer
-
4
If you are successful following the video interview stage, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre for our apprenticeship programmes. Our Assessment Centres are all run virtually via an online platform called TopScore, and all exercises are usually conducted in Microsoft Teams.
You’ll be sent a link and login for the online platform where you’ll be able to access your timetable for the day. The day will usually last 5-6 hours. On the day of the assessment centre, you’ll have access to any supporting materials needed to prepare for each exercise, but if you have been asked to prepare for a presentation, the details of this will usually have been sent to you in advance.
The day consists of a group exercise, 2 x short 1:2:1 exercises, a scenario based interview and sometimes a presentation (this is programme specific).
As part of the assessment centre, you’ll be invited to a Welcome Session at the beginning of the day, and you’ll have the opportunity to attend Q&A sessions with existing Early Careers employees throughout the day. If you have any technical difficulties on the day, the recruitment team will be available to assist you.
