Amazing Apprenticeships’ special mention in Parliament
February 17, 2025
In a parliamentary debate held on Tuesday 4th February, Amazing Apprenticeships received a special mention from Hitchin MP, Alistair Strathern.
The debate was called by Andrew Pakes MP, to discuss ‘The Value of Apprenticeships’, who is co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on apprenticeships, and who openly declared that Skills and Apprenticeships are his passion.
More than 20 MPs from across the UK contributed their views in the debate, sharing stories of where they had met with apprentices in their local constituency, as well as their own personal experience of apprenticeships and skills, their vision for the future skills landscape, and how this will help to widen access to opportunity and contribute to overall economic growth.
Strathern recalled how he had facilitated two different Secretary of State visits to Hitchin. Including during National Apprenticeship Week 2024, where Bridget Phillipson, the then Shadow Secretary, visited Amazing Apprenticeships to meet local apprentices, and to meet with Anna to understand the issues affecting apprenticeship update.
Strathern praised the Amazing Apprenticeships for their fantastic work and added,
“Speaking to employers, and Anna, it’s clear there’s more we can do. Whether it’s making sure we’re building out functional skills to ensure that employers have confidence in them and more young people can access them. To make sure that as we build out the huge opportunity that foundation apprenticeships could provide, we’re supporting more employers and particularly more SMEs to make sure they are able to offer them and they truly can be that stepping stone for more young people into apprenticeships. And to make sure we’re building on the greater awareness young people now have apprenticeships into greater apprenticeship starts.”
