Cutting Through The Complexities Of Apprenticeships

February 24, 2025

During National Apprenticeship Week 2025, Amazing Apprenticeships partnered with the University of Hertfordshire to host a ‘Cutting through the complexities of apprenticeships’ event for nearly 400 students, parents, carers and employers to help them to explore apprenticeships.

The 90-minute workshop covered a wide range of interesting topics. To start the evening we heard from Anna Morrison CBE, Director of Amazing Apprenticeships, who presented an overview of the basics of apprenticeships, helping the audience to understand what an apprenticeship is, the range of levels, the different types of employers and how to search and apply for apprenticeship vacancies. Watford Football Club, who are one of the University of Hertfordshire’s employer partners, then gave their insights into how they recruited their apprentice, Louis.

The audience benefitted from hearing from an apprentice panel, who each shared their own personal experiences, and gave tips on how to prepare for the application process. The panel expressed that applications should be detailed, well researched, and show their personality. We explored various ways of finding an apprenticeship, including applying via the company website, the government website, Find an apprenticeship, internal career progression within a current role, and directly contacting employers.

Next up was Jane Purday, Business Development Manager (and Degree apprentice) at the University of Hertfordshire, who shared her application do’s and don’t’s which were very useful for those who are applying. And wrapping everything up, we heard from Dominic Whyte-Ifill, Business Development Manager, who detailed the University of Hertfordshire apprenticeship programme offer.

Celeste Jones, Head of Apprenticeships then led the audience through an insightful Q&A, with many interesting questions from the audience.

“Events like this are so important for families, helping them to really understand the  detail of apprenticeships in a relaxed, yet informative way. The range of questions from the audience showed the breadth of interest in apprenticeships at all levels.”
