The Benefits Of Employing Apprentices
Why apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships offer employers an opportunity to recruit and train new employees, as well as upskilling existing employees.
With more than 700 different apprenticeship standards at many different levels, there are many different programmes to pick from, suitable for those just starting out in their careers, through to more experienced employees.
What are the benefits?
There are many benefits of apprenticeships, for both the employer and the apprentice.
• Tailored training: Work with your training provider to adapt the training to the needs of your business.
• Save on training costs: Depending on the size of your business, up to 100% of apprenticeship training costs could be paid for by the government.
• Diversify your team: Find innovative ways to develop and progress individuals.
• Grow your business: Address skills gaps and expand your workforce.
How do they work?
An apprentice will be a paid employee, undertaking tasks and workplace activities that relate to the apprenticeship role that they are undertaking.
An amount of their paid time (equivalent to 6 hours per week) will be spent undertaking learning and development activities. You will need to select an apprenticeship training provider to support you with this part of the apprenticeship.
Who can be an apprentice?
Apprentices need to be:
- 16 or over
- living in England
- not in full-time education
Apprenticeships can be designed for those who are entering the workforce, for example school or college leavers.
They can also be for adults of all ages, who can utilise apprenticeships to up-skill or re-skill in the workplace.
