NEET Prevention Through ASK

What is new for Summer 2021?

The ASK programme has been expanded this summer, introducing a range of new presentations and resources that will assist young people and those supporting and advising them, to consider their local options and understand what is available to them through local providers.

How this supports Ahead of the Game summer transition support for year 11 and 13

Ahead of the Game is a unique programme of support for Summer 2021 from The Careers & Enterprise Company. The aim of this campaign is to provide support to young people who are at key education and employment transition stages.

The student facing part of this campaign is called #CreateYourFuture which will provide a series of activities through Youth Employment UK to empower young people to take control of their options and prepare for the future.

The ASK programme supports both campaigns by also helping young people to feel more confident about the pathways and opportunities ahead of them, and supports careers leaders to build a programme of activities that will help to support transition.

What support is available to Local Authorities?

The ASK programme will now support Local Authorities in a number of ways, both by supporting staff to bring their knowledge and awareness of apprenticeships, traineeships and T Levels up to date and also in supporting activities to engage young people who may find themselves without a planned destination and looking for support and information.

The support will include:

  • Supporting activities organised through the LA to engage and support young people who are at risk of / have become NEET e.g. awareness presentations, employability skills workshops, registration and application workshop.
  • Supporting activities for teachers, careers advisers and parents organised through the LA.
  • Staff training workshops and presentations for teams within the LAs who are supporting young people to equip them with knowledge about apprenticeships, traineeships and T Levels.

What is ASK?

Through the Apprenticeship Support & Knowledge for Schools and Colleges programme (ASK), every secondary school or college in England is entitled to access a bespoke programme of apprenticeship awareness activities for their students, staff and parents, working with one of the appointed ASK Delivery Partners. The programme contains two elements: face to face and virtual delivery, as well as a wide range of resources which are available through the Amazing Apprenticeships website.

The programme is fully funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), part of the Department for Education.
