“I joined the RAF as a Cyberspace Communication Specialist because it seemed to be the most diverse trade going – from Satellite Communications providing datalinks deployed across the world to day-to-day IT support for fixed systems, and that’s without going into the rapidly growing world of Cyber. My current role is just one contributor to a much wider spectrum.
From basic training at Halton and trade training at Cosford I was posted to RAF Coningsby and into the Ground Support Systems (GSS) team for the Typhoon aircraft.
By far the best part about GSS is deploying overseas in support of Typhoon squadrons. During my time with the GSS team I have already travelled to the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic, to California in the USA, Romania and Estonia.
Since applying to join the RAF I haven’t looked back. I had no previous experience, but the training and mentoring I have had through gaining my apprenticeship has been excellent. Now when I go home to see my mates they can’t believe what I get up to and where I’ve been.”
