– Personnel Support
There are many roles within the RAF that provide the very best support to our people and in effect deliver our operational role in the UK and around the world. Personnel Support branches are at the heart of the RAF and include: Medical, Legal, Personnel Training, Media and Communications, Personnel Support, Chaplin and many more! In the RAF you will be able to seek unique and exciting opportunities to set you apart from the crowd, no two days will ever be the same!
Logistics form the backbone of the RAF, nothing could run without them. Logistics personnel excel in preparation and planning to help support the RAF’s wide range of duties to protect and serve the UK and the world. Working on the ground or in the air they ensure the smooth running of the RAF.
Working in Royal Air Force Logistics can offer unique and exciting opportunities. You could work in anything from Supply and Distribution, as a Chef, as a Logistics Officer, or even Catering and hospitality. The world really is your oyster.
In the RAF, Intelligence personnel play a key role in the protection and collection of vital information. After receiving unique specialist training, you will learn a range of skills allowing you to become part of an elite team, sitting at the heart of the RAF.
With the opportunity to learn how to use state-of-the-art surveillance systems, interpret foreign language transmissions or even become conversational in new languages, you will be able to unlock your full potential in one of the most exciting careers in the world.
Engineers play a vital role in keeping the RAF moving forward. You will receive specialist training, helping to propel you into a fast-paced working environment like no other! As an engineer in the RAF you will be able to seek unique and exciting opportunities to set you apart from the crowd. Engineer Technicians ensure the maintenance of highly technical equipment, whether it’s a fighter jet, support equipment or an information system; allowing you to unlock your full potential in one of the most exciting careers in the engineering industry.
– Air Operations
Air Operations are a critical part of the RAF. They excel in both problem solving and planning, you will receive a broad range of specialist training helping you to go above and beyond in your role. Whether positioned in Air Traffic or Weapons Control, monitoring the skies and outer space, or managing a Flight Operations team, you will need to be switched on and alert at all times.
As Air Operations personnel, you could be performing a wide range of tasks. Anything from creating flight plans, coordinating air traffic to and from military bases, controlling jets intercepting suspicious aircraft, or even monitoring foreign satellites over the UK. No two days will be the same!
The RAF Regiment are the RAF’s ground fighting element; force protection specialists who fight to control the ground to ensure control of the air. World leaders in ‘air-minded’ infantry tactics, the RAF Regiment operates both at home and overseas to ensure the safety of RAF aircraft and personnel in potentially hostile environments.
As a member of the RAF Regiment, you will have access to a variety of career paths. You will have the option to specialise in specialist weapons including mortars, machine guns or as a sniper and learn to drive a variety of vehicles from Land Rovers up to Armoured vehicles. You may also provide force protection training to the wider Air Force or train as a paratrooper or Forward Air Controller.
Whichever programme you choose, your career will start with a 10-week Basic Recruit Training Course designed to help you adjust to a military environment. As well as fitness and military training, you will also learn about the RAF lifestyle. Your apprenticeship training will start with a 37-week foundation course, and is designed to prepare you for your first tours by giving you a breadth of skills and knowledge across the full range of duties you may be employed in.
