About our Apprenticeships

Thames Valley Police (TVP) values apprenticeships and the opportunity to earn whilst you learn; from front line police officer roles and 999/101 call handlers to a variety of police staff positions.

TVP is committed to making apprenticeships appeal to a broad age range of people; whatever your background, now is the perfect time to bring your valuable experience and skills to an organisation dedicated to building safer and stronger communities. TVP currently have 406 apprentices working towards completing their programmes.

Our apprenticeships are high quality development programmes which vary in length depending on the type of qualification. Typically our apprenticeships take between one and three years to complete, with all apprentices gaining a nationally recognised qualification which will help them succeed in their job and progress their future career.

All apprentices are fully supported to achieve their apprenticeship, with structured learning and development provided by TVP professionals and, for some occupations, in conjunction with a specialist training organisation.

Since 2018, TVP has introduced three new apprenticeship programmes:

TVP is also continuing to introduce new apprenticeships across police staff departments as we look to attract talent from all ages and backgrounds. The variety of opportunities available has never been greater, with opportunities already offered in the following departments:

  • Finance
  • Corporate Communications
  • Learning & Development (Training)
  • People Services (HR)
  • Forensics
  • Motor Vehicle Technician
  • ICT (Information Technology)

In July 2022, Thames Valley Police were recognised as a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer in the Government’s annual listing for the first time, ranking number 61.
