How does the application process work?
Within the Travis Perkins Group, we do all of our recruitment online. Once you’ve submitted your application, one of our team will be in touch within four weeks to let you know whether you will be progressed to the next stage.
Depending on the Apprenticeship Programme you’ve applied for the next stage can vary – but it will generally be either a telephone or face-to-face interview.
How can I improve my chances at interview?
RESEARCH
The Role – read through all of the information given to you about the role, and use this to form questions to ask at interview, and to construct answers to questions regarding your previous experience and how it relates.
Around the Company – You can also prepare for interview by researching the sector the company operates within, and the company’s main competitors (including their target market and most successful products).
Your Route – Ensure you’re as ready and relaxed as possible on the day by researching the route you’ll take to reach your interview.
PRACTICE
In the Mirror – Practicing running through your presentation or questions in the mirror is a great way to help you become more confident with what you want to say.
Role Play – Ask someone to help you carry out a mock-interview. Let them give you some feedback on how you answered their questions. If you have a video camera, record yourself.
Online Tools & Assessments – Online assessments come in many shapes and forms, so make sure you take practice assessments wherever possible.
PREPARE
Answers & Questions – Check out five of the most commonly asked questions and how to answer them. Prepare between 3-5 questions to ask the interviewer.
Know Your CV – Know the date ranges of all of your previous roles and show you are truthful about previous employment.
Test Equipment for Digital Interviews – If your interview is online, make sure you are set up early. Connect with your interviewer beforehand if it is a digital conference call, and test out the software and hardware equipment.
Have Your Outfit Ready – Find out what the dress code is for the interview and make sure your outfit is washed, ironed and ready the night before.
