The application process

The application process has four steps – an online form, an online situational strengths test, a video interview and the assessment centre.

Our top tips for your application are below. See our dedicated Hints & Tips page for more information, and watch our video interview hints and tips from BT’s head of volume recruitment.

Hints and Tips

  • Answer any questions honestly and intuitively. Don’t try to answer on the basis of what you think other people would do, or what you think somebody else might expect.
  • Think about how questions and challenges relate to the apprenticeship you’re applying for. For example, if you’ve applied to one of our engineering programmes, these challenges might appear while you are visiting a customers’ premises.
  • The video interview is our opportunity to see your personality, drive, motivation and whether you are a good fit for your preferred apprenticeship – be aware of your background and environment, dress to impress, and consider taking a practice video interview to familiarise yourself with the video interview system.
  • Ensure you know as much as possible about Openreach and BT.
  • Be clear about your own strengths and weakness, and what you can bring to Openreach.

Openreach

Openreach looks after the fibres, wires and cables that connect the country. Whether you’re making calls, video conferencing, sharing files, downloading music, streaming movies, or indulging in a bit of online retail therapy – it’s most likely on our network.

Openreach engineers have diverse backgrounds, with varied experiences. We’re looking for apprentices with an ability to connect with people and a willingness to get stuck in.
