MasterChef winner joins S3 of The Parent Perspective Podcast

Series 3 of The Parent Perspective Podcast is back this autumn, kicking off with former apprentice and Masterchef champion, Louisa Ellis.

The Parent Perspective has been running for two years, helping parents and carers to become more informed about the choices and options that their child might want to consider by hearing from experts, employers and apprentices

In this episode, we hear from Louisa as she paints a picture of how her passion for cooking started by learning to master Spaghetti Bolognese with her Granny. Inspired with a fascination of food, she then went on to study catering in school and college, ultimately turning her love of being in the kitchen into an award-winning career.

Aged only 22 when she first entered the Masterchef Professionals competition, Louisa has built upon her apprenticeship to continue to learn and grow. Now an experienced chef with her own private dining business, Chef Louisa Ellis, Louisa is enjoying building her customer base and expertise as as the business continues to grow and flourish.

Louisa also uses her public profile and recognition within the industry to help to raise awareness of the career paths into catering, and to inspire others to see that with a great deal of determination, hard work and resilience, you could make it as a successful chef.

In the podcast, host Rachel Burden asks Louisa about those working in hospitality and the recocnition and respect that brings. Louisa responds,

“When you work in an industry like hospitality, you do need to prove your worthiness, and you have to work quite hard to get to that stage. When you’re younger you don’t get as much respect, and that is probably down to the fact that there is a stigma about chefs, where if you don’t work hard and long hours then you’re not a proper chef. But that is starting to change now for the better, and I think it’s becoming a better environment to work in.”

“Applying for masterchef in my case, I knew I wasn’t the best chef in the world, but I was humble about that and accepting of that. That was really important because it then meant that I was able to come from that experience and keep learning and growing”

Louisa rounds off this episode by sharing her Granny’s secret recipe for Spaghetti Bolognese which we have turned into a helpful recipe sheet.
