Behind the Scenes at Parliament

HOLLY FROM AMAZING APPRENTICESHIPS MEETS THE HOUSE OF COMMONS APPRENTICES

WHAT THE APPRENTICES SAY

“I thought I wouldn’t relate to the people I was working with, that I’d stick out like a sore thumb. It’s not been like that at all. Literally anyone you could think of – there’s someone working here like that. There are so many open-minded people, even if it’s not someone who is directly working with you you know where to find them.”

REYCHELLE BAKER DUTIES PLANNER

“What I was most surprised about was that you just jump straight into the action. They treat you like a colleague and you’re working on the same things that the whole team is working on.

Have a look at what you think is best for you. Apply to university too if you want to – you don’t have to go just because you apply. There are a lot of apprenticeship opportunities out there in almost every field you can think of.”

JACK LETCHFORD ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

“This is a great opportunity to work with really experienced people at the top of their trade. Being at Parliament was a bit daunting – you don’t know your way around, you might get lost – but everyone helps you out. After the first couple of days you settle in.

I just met the guys on the first day, and then we were straight out on the job. I don’t really feel like an apprentice. It’s really good to feel that freedom and feel part of the team.

You don’t feel like you’re a student and you’re studying, you’re straight into work and you’re in the same boat as everyone else.”
